When Toni Widing graduated from high school, she went on to cosmetology school, in pursuit of her dream to become a hairdresser. There’s nothing else she ever wanted to do. Now, with over 30 years in the business, she is still passionate about doing hair and fondly recalls how when she first started working at Don Franco’s how exciting it was to work with professionals and how she absolutely loved working there. That’s the same feeling she wants for the stylists working at her new salon- the enjoyment of being part of a special group of like-minded people, ready to learn and continually striving to further their career in their profession.
Life has its challenges, and Toni sought to strengthen her relationship with God, finding encouragement and inspiration. When she saw the Cornerstone Building on television, she decided to step out in faith and open a salon of her own. When asked about the name Salon 416, she explained that it’s derived from 1 John 4:16. She knew if she opened a business, it would surely be in Fenton, so she could be closer to her kids. After all, she grew up in Flushing, and fell in love with her husband as well as his hometown, Fenton! She likes how Fenton has a small town atmosphere yet it’s cool too. “You can be yourself and feel right at home in Fenton,” she said.
Upon meeting with the developers of the Cornerstone Building in 2011, she knew it was the right place. “The Cornerstone Building is so beautiful, and I want the salon to be cutting edge,” she said. The salon is designed for both men and women by Leslie McGwire, ASID Allied member, salon and spa designer. The contemporary, warm space will feel light and airy with grey/beige tones and soft Tiffany blue. Toni’s husband, Patrick Widing is the contractor building out her 2500 square foot salon space and he shares her vision in making it extra special. They’re creating a fun, relaxing destination for clients, where they feel at home and are greeted by name.
They want to do one thing and do it well. Since the salon will be specialized and focus solely on hair, they will be the first salon in the region to have Beth Menardi salon lighting of New York at each station that will show hair color as if it’s in sunlight and will use the newest technology color processor. Toni selected special, unique hair care lines Aquage, Oribe, and V76 men’s line because of their small group education opportunities. To stay ahead of the game, she and her staff will attend international hair shows in NY, Chicago and Miami Beach. They will also be using the award winning Apple STX salon software system so stylists can save time and focus more on making their customer look their best.
After much anticipation, and the finishing touches, Toni is thrilled to open Salon 416 this December and will host a Grand Opening after the holidays. They will be open Monday through Saturday, and closed on Sundays. She looks forward to being a part of the community, participating in events and working together with local businesses like Rejuv Ave. Skin Spa and the new yoga studio downtown.
She also looks forward to fundraising for Women’s Breast Cancer, Wigs for Kids, through Aquage, and supporting The Freedom Center in Fenton.
Watch for their new website, Salon416.com integrated with their Facebook and Pinterest pages where clients can find specials, learn makeover tips and even purchase gift certificates.
